Description
Vintage and rare silver plated Elgin American WW 2 Patriotic Lady Liberty Compact. A wonderfully unique and rare vintage compact that was made by the Elgin American Company in the 1940s. They were previously makers of fine watches and later made very fine and expensive ladies compacts. This is a silver-plated compact ( 2-1/4" and 3/4" thick,) in a coin motif. The front features a profile of Lady Liberty's head surrounded by stars (the helmet that she wore signified her being ready to defend America,) The back side has the official bird of America ... the American Eagle with a star and wreath border around the eagle. The inside has a mirror on one side and the opposite side is for loose powder and has the original puff with the Elgin American name on it and its original powder screen. This was a patriotic theme compact that was made during World War 2. They are rare and hard to find because they are true collector keepers. They range in price from .00 to 0.00 depending on the condition. This one is priced right for a very quick sale.
