Description
1930-1935 Vanity Purse Compact by Mondaine, NY. (This company was acquired by Foster, Inc in 1937). The metal is a glossy silver tone, with the outer case done in Green Enamel alternating with black wavey lines running vertically. (There is a tiny imperfection on the lower right corner). In the center of the lid there is a raised plaque showing in glossy silver tone an Art Deco figure of the head of a woman drinking a martini. The wristlet strap is in a woven green fabric with decorative bands near the attachment. The strap is totally clean, like new and attached is 4.5 inches long for over a wrist. Inside the compact there is a large rectangular mirror surrounded by a beautifully chased design in the metal. The lower inside area also has chased designs on all three compartments. The upper compartment is the perfect size for a lady's calling cards, with a spring lid thus making unlikely it was for change. On the bottom of this lid, it is hallmarked Mondaine, New York USA. Below this compartment are two compartments - on the left is one labeled FACE ROUGE (rouge never used) and on the right is one labeled FACE POWDER containing loose powder, and on both the words PATS PENDING. Under these compartments on the metal frame are the words Mondaine New York USA. This is an amazing example of the Art Moderne, depicting the "modern" woman. Very rare. We have spent a large amount of time researching this unusual demi carry-all. We carefully examined and described it to the best of or our ability. NO RETURNS. USPS Priority Mail US only.
