$ 10.56

Availability: 100 in stock

Description

1886 illustrated cover sent from Mrs. E.T. Barrett, President of the Womans Relief Corps from Sing Sing, NY to Warsaw, NY.  The organization was the official women's auxiliary organization of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), which was recognized in 1883 (as reflected on the cover), and the illustration at left show a badge from that order.
The cover
is postmarked with cancellations reading September 27, 1886 (Sing Sing, NY) and September 28, 1886 (Corning, NY Received), and it also has a handstamp reading "Missent."  Since Sing Sing is home to one of America's most famous prisons, it is interesting that the letter originated from there.  It is franked with one 1 cent stamp.  The cover is in excellent, clean condition.
It is a Very Fine piece ready to enhance any collection of U.S. postal history.
